Market Restaurant in Montclair, NJ is a garden inspired neighborhood restaurant with a laid back atmosphere. We serve farmers market style eclectic American cuisine and focus our attention on serving the freshest, most locally grown produce. We have decided to concentrate on the food we love: simple, fresh, and home inspired. Most of our produce is locally resourced and certified organic. We believe in sustainable farming and consider ourselves a part of the “slow food” movement.

Excellent! Enjoy more than Raymonds
Today was the second time I've eating at Market and as I was sitting there I decided that it would be my choice over Raymonds. I live in town and like to walk over for brunch and the food at Market is delicious. Today I had a mixed green salad that was simply delicious and well crafted. I've NEVER had a problem with the service. In fact, they've always been friendly, warm and personable, more so than a typical waiter/waitress.

not as good as the other location
let me start off by saying the food is very good at Market. we had a great experience at the original location and were happy to try the new spot. i had previously reviewed Market and gave it 5 stars all around. unfortunately this trip was totally sub-par.
admittedly we showed up 10 minutes late only to find that they had given away our reservation. i've been eating in restaurants for 15 years in manhattan and have never had my reservation given away after 10 minutes. they said, "when we don't get a phone call we just assume you're not coming". while i understand the idea of a busy restaurant needing to push forward with seating patrons, giving away a reservation with no warning after 10 minutes is just ludicrous. especially since i'm quite sure that if our table hadn't been ready at our exact reservation time that we would have been asked to wait til it was. probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 to 10 minutes, no? the person on the phone gave no indication that we needed to be there EXACTLY on time or we'd lose our reservation and if that was the case, certainly should have mentioned it when we made the initial booking or taken my phone number just in case. so we waited an additional 25 minutes before our table was ready. the whole experience was incredibly amateur-ish and really ruined the entire dining experience. they would have been better off lying to us and just saying the table wasn't ready, rather than pissing me off to the point of not even wanting to eat there. find someone who knows how to run the front of the restaurant properly please.
by the time we got to our table we were already told that they were out of the chicken dish that my wife wanted to order. they were also out of several desserts. we were seated at 9:20pm on a saturday night. seems as if someone completely screwed up the shopping list. pretty lame that they would already be running out of major dishes on the menu at such a prime dining hour.
and while the waiter was extremely pleasant, he was dressed like he just rolled out of bed after attending a late night phish concert. i'm all for casual dining, but his appearance was more suited for an afternoon in his own apartment, not serving patrons in a public restaurant. to be fair he was very nice and helpful with the menu and the rest of the waitresses were equally pleasant.
not sure if they are still working out the decor, but the place just looks awful. it has none of the charm that the original location offered. the colors are terrible, the white picket fencing is awkward and really horrendous looking, and they have yet to hang any art on the walls which don't even appear to be clean. the banquettes in the booths need to be bolstered (i was constantly being shoved forward by the people in the adjacent both). it just appears as if zero thought was put into the interior design. again, perhaps this is a work in progress, but it is clearly headed in the wrong direction. get rid of that drop-ceiling while your at it. makes the whole place feel like you're at the DMV.
i really hope they are able to turn around the service and decor because the food is very good. Although, my wife's steak was not cooked properly, the pork chop was amazing as were the salad and pulled pork appetizers. Dessert was also very good despite the fact that we only had two items to choose from.
I would love to be able to go back, but there are clearly many issues being worked out. The reservation issue alone made me not want to go back there for a long time.

It's pretty good, but no necessarily the best
The food was fresh and tasty. The vegetables were amazing. lamb burger was inspired and cook right. However, the ravioli were undercooked and gooey the night we were there. Definitely sit inside, unless you are tiny and very handy - the street side seating is uncomfortable, and, frankly, too loud with traffic. And, yes, the yogurt is great. It actually tastes like buttercream, not like sugar.

Amazing Meal!
Great food overall! Try the market platter (the freshest vegetables we've ever tasted) and the salads are amazing. Meats are thick generous cuts as well. Finish it off with their real frozen yogurt...it tastes simply divine with a buttermilk finish. We loved it! Ask for a sample to experience it!

we went for brunch and the food was very creative and good. outdoor tables weren't very practical for eating (they had a cutout pattern that made it difficult to set things on--the table next to us had a glass tip over and it spilled right thru the table onto the persons lap)
